Snow! And my dream garden.

Hihi everyone! So, we got hit with a HUGE dumping of snow on Sunday night, it was so much fun! I woke up nice and early (4am, yes I am insane) to look out the window, and the view had a lovely pink haze to it, it was AMAZING. Wish I'd taken a photo. This week I've really been planning about how I'd like to change the house up. We can't do too much to it right now, due to it earthquake damage, so one small thing at a time. For example, I removed the blinds from the office window this week and left it with just the lace curtain. The aluminium blinds against the wooden frame just did not appeal to me at all.

I was thinking a couple of days after, about our garden, and that it is probably destroyed now from the frosts and snow. So I've been planning on what to plant in Spring! I'm very VERY inexperienced with gardening (most, if not all of the things I've planted have died) but thought I've give it a shot. We've only lived in our house for 6 months, and the current landscaping is pretty odd. Flax bushes, cabbage trees, ferns, tussock grasses and cacti. Yes, cacti. Not good for having around young children and drunken friends. And a few hedges here and there.

Overall, the garden has a masculine look to it. I love old fashioned, country cottage style gardens. And our house is a cute little wooden place from the 1950s. So I think a cottage garden would look super sweet!

Some things I plan on injecting into our garden this Spring.......

Hydrangea's, don't they look stunning in a vase? Hubby hates them, but hopefully I can convince him to let me  buy some!

Lavender, I know its a major bee attracting device, but purple flowers are so pretty and very cottage-esque.

Foxgloves, and lupins. Love em!

Wisteria, we have a very young wisteria planted down the back of the section, and not sure if the snow has killed it off, fingers crossed that it hasn't!

Peony.....ahhh so pretty!!!!

I have a lot more in mind, maybe some other varieties of Ivy and maybe some climbing roses, or even normal roses but I hear that they are alot of work. I'll have to take alot of before and after pics anyway. I can't believe I'm writing a blog about gardening, but now I'm all grown up and a home owner, and someone has to take care of this garden!

To finish off, some inspirational garden pics I've found.

I can HARDLY see our garden ever ending up like these but, maybe with a lot of love and care.......you never know! OH and note to self, must plant Daffodils next month! They smell so good!
